Universal Music Auckland Office
Lead Interior Designer while working for Think+Shift
Universal Music offices are upstairs from an old Stables building in Newton, Auckland. The original fit-out was very corporate and stark and hid the character and structural features of the old building. A more casual, ‘Rock’nRoll’ creative feel was what we wanted to add to the the space.
In the new design we opened up the space again and exposed more of the original walls and character of the building elements. We worked with a very simple material palette of steel with some softer textures such as linen, leather and jute, to enhance the space.
The new kitchen and breakout area was to be the hub and centre of the space, bridging the clean lines and matt finishes with the textured character of the old finishes. The green kitchen with brass patina splash-back adds colour. The brass will patina over time adding another character element that will connect the new and the old.
